About
A single rustic cabin at Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area, high on the slopes of Haleakalā on Maui, sleeping up to 8 people. Hawaii DLNR's own page states there's no electricity, no refrigerator, and no linen provided - bring your own bedding and a plan for food and light. CLOSED until further notice while Hawaii's Division of Forestry and Wildlife repairs the Kula Forest Reserve access road that reaches this cabin. Hawaii state park status has been changing amid Hurricane Lala/Tropical Storm Moke recovery - check dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/important-park-notices/ for the current status before traveling.
Fees
$70/night for Hawaii residents, $100/night for non-residents. Online cabin reservations must be made at least 7 days before check-in, through Hawaii DLNR Division of State Parks' own explore.ehawaii.gov system - the same portal used for tent camping (migrated statewide from the legacy camping.ehawaii.gov system as of February 1, 2026; login required to book). Full payment is required at the time of reservation; cancelling less than 15 days before check-in gets no refund, and a $5 cancellation fee applies to refunds that are granted.
This cabin sits at over 6,200 feet elevation - genuinely cold at night for Hawaii, especially with no electricity or stated heat source. It's currently closed for access-road repairs; check DLNR's live park-notices page before planning a trip.
