About
Six rustic cabins at Austin Hawes Campground in American Legion State Forest, along the West Branch of the Farmington River. A 14-by-17-foot rustic cabin with two rooms, comfortably sleeping four (up to six), furnished with two sets of bunk beds plus one full-size bed - mattresses are provided, but bring your own linens and pillows. There's electric lighting but no running water, toilet, or shower inside; a bathroom and shower house are nearby. No cooking, open flames, or smoking are allowed inside the cabin, and the primary occupant must be at least 21. None of the six are wheelchair accessible. Pets aren't allowed in or at the cabin, even at parks where pets are welcome on the regular campsites. That's a real exception here specifically - pets ARE welcome on this state forest's own regular tent and RV sites, just not in or around the cabins. The campground office closes at 5:30pm daily, and cabin renters must check in by then - no after-hours check-ins are available.
Fees
$50/night for Connecticut residents, $60/night for non-residents, per the cabin's own published rate. A $50 refundable security deposit is due at check-in.
A 2-night minimum applies (no weekend-only restriction here, unlike several other Connecticut cabin parks), with a 14-night maximum stay and a mandatory 5-day break between reservations. The campground's own 2026 booking calendar runs into mid-October; no separate cabin-specific season is published beyond that.
