Katy Trailhead (OT) the Forest Service's write-up
This trail head is located on Forest Service Road 3152. It is the southern most trailhead on the Between the Rivers Section of the Ozark Trail (OT). There is room for small horse trailers to pull in and unload and for some overnight parking at the trailhead.
The Between the Rivers Section of the OT provides the necessary connection between the Current and Eleven Point Rivers. In addition to traversing impressive stands of white oak, shortleaf pine, and scarlet oak, the trail offers pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. Look into the past when nearing Bristol Cemetery or explore the lichen covered boulder field at Devil's Run.
Paty Pond trailhead (OT) the Forest Service's write-up
As of December 2022, this trailhead is still in service; but sometime in 2023, the Forest plans to move trail access to a nearby location as trail realignment occurs.
Eleven Point River Section of the Ozark Trail is located in Oregon County MO running east and west about 20 miles south of Winona, MO. It has several lookout points for the Eleven Point River. Leffer Look has high bluffs from which to gaze at the water. Devil's Backbone offers karst features, another point of interest along the Eleven Point River Section of the Ozark Trail is the history at Bockman Spring House and the cool waters of Hurricane Creek. Greer Spring is also just on the South side of the river! The trail leaves the 3152 trailhead, winding along the side slopes to Hurricane Creek. The crossing may be unsafe to use during high water periods. The first 10 miles pass through very rugged slopes and flowages associated with the Eleven Point National Scenic River. Several fine views of the Eleven Point valley are present. From the Greer Recreation area, at mile 10, the trail parallels the Eleven Point River on its way to McCormack Lake. There is a fine picture opportunity at the mouth of Greer Spring and an excellent bluff view of the river near mile 12. A spur leads to McCormack Lake at mile 13. Continuing west, the trail winds through the rugged Eleven Point terrain and offers two more contacts with the river. Near mile 20, the trail passes next to Bockman Spring, which is part of the Spring Creek flowage. The westernmost 10 miles of the trail are in the Spring Creek flowage and offer occasional views of the creek and bottom fields.
